Kinder Tribe Link Up

So I haven't blogged in 100 years, but I joined an awesome group of Kindergarten teachers on the Kinder Tribe blog and I wanted to join the linky party. So I am still unsure of all this and I hope I do it right! (Forgive me if I don't!) Let me first start by saying that I don't have a store and my blog is not fancy, but I love the Kindergarten blogging community and have learned so much from them. Well here it goes.....

1. My district is a little touchy about posting anything on the internet so I thought I would just stick with my name. My last name is unique and I would be very easily traced and thought it's just better to stay away from all that.

2. This year will be be my 25th year of teaching!!! OMG! I can't believe it! It seems like yesterday I was standing in my very first classroom and thinking to myself, "It's so big!" (I don't think that anymore. LOL!) I taught 2nd grade for 5 years, 1st grade for 4 years and have spent 16 years in Kindergarten. I love Kindergarten!!!! I also teach at the school that I attended as a little girl.

3. I know diet coke is not good for you, but it keeps me sane!!! I am not a coffee drinker so this is my caffeine. I also limit myself to only one a day.  I have 3 daughters and they are my world. I love my girls so much!

4. A year ago I purchased a laminator on the recommendation of one of the fabulous bloggers that I follow and it is the best purchase I have ever made!!!!! I don't know how I taught for so long without one! I purchased it at Target for about $20 and I get my sheets at Sam's Club for about the same price.  Everyone at my school always wants to borrow it. (Um no!)

5. I have so many favorite books, but Brown Bear, Brown Bear is a tried and true classic, that I remember as a child and kids love it every time they hear it.

6. I love a lot of bloggers, but Kristin from A Teeny Tiny Teacher always puts a smile on my face. I so wish we were friends in real life! I also just recently found out she teaches 1st and not K, but that's okay she is still my favorite.

7. And last, but not least...I love Kindergarten because everyday is a new day. No two days are ever the same when you teach Kindergarten! The kids are so sweet and loving, even the ones that don't seem sweet and loving in the beginning.(They really are too!) It's the one grade where you see so much growth and I truly believe Kindergarten needs to be a positive experience so that it helps our little ones to love learning!

Thanks for reading because I know I don't have a cutesy blog or anything fancy, but I do love teaching, learning and sharing and I am so glad to be a part of this community. Sorry I don't know how to link properly!!

Kindergarten Common Core

I have been teaching Kindergarten for 12 years now and this year our district is moving to the new Common Core Standards. My school has jumped the gun and we started the school year with the new Common Core Standards in our classrooms, instead of waiting until second semester like the rest of the District. Most teachers are a little freaked out by this, but I am here to tell you that there is no reason to be! Why? This book right here is the answer! I had the opportunity to download the sample and have loved what I have seen! You can go here "Kindergarten Common Core" to check it out!

There is over 600 pages of valuable information in this baby! Each standard is there and written out for your bulletin boards already! Each standard even has activities to go with it and the cutest clip art to boot! We know as Kindergarten teachers we are all into cuteness! Well I'm telling you this is the whole enchilada! The whole Kindergarten blogging world is talking about it and we know we have some great resources out there! So do yourself a favor and if you teach Kinder check out the Kindergarten Common Core book and you will thank yourself! I promise!

Why Kindergarten Kindness?

Hello to all my fellow Kindergarten teachers!!! I just love all the sharing and support that is out there in blogging and I wanted to join in the fun! I was going to wait until September, but Fran over in Kindergarten Crayons shared a linky party and I wanted to join. I named my blog Kindergarten Kindness because I truly believe that Kinder teachers (all teachers really) are so kind and always willing to help. In the last month I have been the recipient of a tremendous amount of ideas and I hope I am able to pay it forward and someone gets an idea or two from me. It might take me a while to get a handle on this blogging and making my site cute, but until then hang on and visit often!

Love,

Mrs. O
